This policy is arranged and administered by FirstAssist Insurance Services Limited and is underwritten by Great Lakes Reinsurance (UK) plc. Great Lakes Reinsurance (UK) plc is Authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority.

What type of insurance policy is this?

This is a travel policy that, subject to the terms, conditions and exclusions contained in the Policy Document, will meet certain costs that might arise during the course of your travels.

What are the significant exclusions and limitations?

1. All persons insured under this policy must declare any pre-existing medical conditions. A pre-existing condition is defined below:

  • Any medical condition/procedure that has been diagnosed/ performed in the last 12 months.
  • Any treatment received as a hospital in-patient in the last 12 months
  • Any diagnosis or treatment for cancer.
  • Any condition/ procedure for which you still take medication, including repeat prescriptions
  • Any heart surgery or heart condition (including Angina, Arrhythmia, Palpitations, Murmurs etc.)
  • If you are on a waiting list for treatment or consultation or have received a terminal prognosis

2. The following activities are not covered by this insurance. Sailing outside territorial waters, scuba/skin diving other than depths of less than 30 metres, hunting on horseback, motor competitions, professional sports, racing – unless on foot, cave diving, ice hockey, judo, karate, lacrosse, paragliding, polo, steeple chasing, shooting/hunting including big game hunting, weight lifting, flying – unless you are a fare-paying passenger on a regular scheduled airline or licensed charter aircraft, gliding, hang-gliding, parachuting, parascending, high diving, ballooning, paid work of any kind, motorcycling as a rider or passenger on any motorcycle or moped exceeding 125cc in engine capacity, motorcycling as a rider or passenger on any motorcycle or moped under 125cc unless wearing a helmet, mountaineering when you need to use ropes or guides, cliff or rock climbing, potholing, canyoning or caving. Organised team sports. Manual work, physical labour involving the use of tools or machinery or exposure to risk that could give rise to your bodily injury or illness. Black or white water rafting, canoeing, bungee jumping except where these are organised events which have been prebooked and pre-paid, in the United Kingdom prior to you beginning the journey and when supervised by a suitably qualified instructor or guide.
The winter sports cover provided is for recreational skiing (including snowboarding) in recognised resort areas that have marked pistes or runs designed for public use. The following winter sports will not be covered ski mountaineering, skiing against local authoritative warning or advice, ski stunting, ski randonee, ice hockey, freestyle skiing, ski jumping, ski or ski bob racing, the use of skeletons or bob sleighs. At all times you will be expected to ski safely and not recklessly expose yourself to hazard.

3. You must exercise reasonable care for the safety and supervision of your property.

4. The insured person’s suicide, attempted suicide, intentional selfinjury, deliberate exposure to danger (except in an attempt to save
human life), being under the influence of alcohol, solvents or drugs. Injury, illness or disablement resulting from a sexually transmitted
disease.

5. Your pregnancy where the period of the trip terminates less than two months before the date of delivery.

6. Your unlawful act.

7. Bankruptcy/liquidation of any tour operator travel agent or transportation company.

8. Consequential loss of any kind.

9. Claims arising from any circumstances you were aware of at the start of the insurance period, unless we have been made aware of them and accepted them in writing.

10. Travel to areas the Foreign and Commonwealth Office have advised against travelling to.

11. Adults and children aged 16 and over are covered to travel independently.

What is the duration of this policy?

The maximum duration of any one trip is 31 days, a maximum of 17 days for winter sports in any one insurance year if appropriate premium
paid. Includes cover for trips taken wholly within the UK provided that accommodation is booked and paid for in advance for at least 2 consecutive nights or more.

What are the cancellation rights?

If you are not happy with your policy you may return it to the issuing agent within 14 days of issue and your premium will be refunded in full, provided no claims have been made and we receive your returned certificate, including validation schedule, prior to departure date. If you choose to cancel the policy outside this 14 day period no refund will be given.

Are Great Lakes Reinsurance (UK) PLC covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS)?

Great Lakes Reinsurance (UK) PLC is a member of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. This provides compensation in case any of its members go out of business or into liquidation and are unable to meet any valid claims under its policies. The first £2,000 of a claim is protected in full. Above this threshold, 90% of the remainder of the claim will be met.
